SATIRE WITH A SERIOUS QUESTION

The
Skills Cow.

Satirical cartoons about skilled migration, underemployment and wasted capability in Australia.

What happens to the skills
after the people arrive?

Australia debates who it brings in. This series asks what happens to their skills after they arrive.

#01 · NO MORE UBER DRIVERS?

Politicians argue about local, imported and subsidised hay while a cow wearing a Skilled Migration cap stands beside an Uber car. Stop arguing about the hay. Milk the skills.

Satirical illustration inspired by Pauline Hanson’s “No more Uber drivers” comments on skilled migration.

Before calling someone an Uber driver, ask what they did before Australia.

Australia may have less of a skills shortage than a skills utilisation problem.

BEHIND THE SKILLS COW

About me

I’m Rooslan Gareyev. My background is in finance, operations, business transformation and growth, including senior roles as a CFO and General Manager before I moved to Australia.

I migrated as an assessed Corporate General Manager and experienced first-hand how easily professional capability can be downgraded once it crosses a border.

Today, I work in automotive sales, drive Uber, and write about skilled migration, underemployment and the economic cost of wasted capability.

Australia works hard to attract skills. I’m interested in what happens to those skills after they arrive.
